After attending the 2017 World Aquaculture Convention , I realized and saw there is a huge need for a smaller modular Aquaponic system.
I worked on the idea for sometime as there is no such purpose-based professional system on the market. It started with feedback from so many people who visited my facilities. Everyone does not want to be a commercial farmer like me, but want to makes use of the brilliant technique of producing food.
In collaboration with my father and a manufacturer, I developed a unique small-scale product that I call the "LAPPIES™" system. It's a modular system and 100% "PLUG AND PLAY" It is a closed RAS Aquaponic system and can easily be expanded. The grow beds for the aquaponic are loose and can be placed over the dam, or separately aside just as your space allows.
It only takes an hour to assemble and get it operational. It consists of a 1500 liter dam that can house up to 20 kg of fish, so plus minus 70 big fish of 300g. And 3 x containers/ growbeds for aggregate, which work on the "flood and drain" principle.
The 3 x 2meter grow beds give you an area of 4.2m and is enough to accommodate at least 120 plants. Since the set is modular, you can mix and match to suit your needs. The units can also be bought separately, but remember that there is a direct proportion between the amount of fish and the amount of plants, as it will determine the concentration of nutrients as well as the filtration rate. The Pond and Growbed Plastic linings are of high quality 4- 5mm plastic, and is UV resistant and meets food standards. All of the frames are made of recycled composite plastic. The composite plastic is guaranteed for 30 years.
